AirTrunk Unveils $30 Billion India Expansion Plan to Build Massive Data Center Network by 2030
AirTrunk, backed by Blackstone, has announced plans to invest more than $30 billion in India by 2030 to develop over 5 GW of data center capacity. The expansion, following the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra and a $21 billion hyperscale campus deal near Mumbai, is expected to accelerate cloud computing, artificial intelligence growth, job creation, and supply chain development.
The announcement comes shortly after AirTrunk's acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra and follows a landmark $21 billion agreement to establish a hyperscale data center campus near Mumbai. The investment marks one of the largest commitments to digital infrastructure in India and reflects growing global confidence in the country's technology ecosystem.
Speaking on the expansion, Khuda highlighted India's vast scale, highly skilled talent pool, and strong ambitions in the digital sector as key factors driving the company's long-term investment strategy. The company views India as a critical market for meeting rising demand for advanced data storage, processing, and cloud-based services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the investment, noting that large-scale digital infrastructure projects play a crucial role in shaping the future of the global digital economy. The planned expansion is expected to strengthen India's position as a major technology and data infrastructure hub while supporting the country's broader digital transformation goals.
The investment aligns with forecasts that India's data center market will expand significantly from approximately 1.3 gigawatts of capacity today to 5 gigawatts by 2030. Industry experts view the development as a major catalyst for economic growth, with the potential to generate employment opportunities, enhance technology capabilities, and reinforce domestic and international supply chains.
AirTrunk's commitment underscores the growing importance of India in the global technology landscape. As demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence continues to surge, the planned expansion is set to play a pivotal role in strengthening the country's digital infrastructure and supporting the next phase of technological and economic growth.
